lack of proper nutrition or not eating adequate balance diet is malnutrition.
Balance diet means a food that contain all the necessary nutrients needed in the food!
The most common type of malnutrition that affect our children is kwashiorkor and Marasmus
kwashiorkor happens when a child lack protein
marasmus happens when a child lack carbohydrates.
we have PEM as well( protein energy malnutrition): it happens when a child lack both the proteins and carbohydrates that’s all the macronutrients.
macronutrients are required in a large amount in the body
they are the seven classes of food
carbohydrates such as cassava,rice,garri,cereals and legumes
proteins such as meat,fish,beans,egg
fat such as vegetable oil,nuts,cheese,
minerals such as bone and cartilage
fibre: Apple, beans, roughages
vitamins we have different types of vitamins mentioned below
we have fat soluble vitamins(ADEK) and water soluble vitamins (B,C,)
Lack of vitamins is called Avitaminiosis and it results in many syndromes
Lack of vitamin A causes Night blindness
Lack of vitamin B causes beri-beri
Lack of vitamin C causes scurvy
Lack of vitamin D causes oesteomalacia in adult and ricket in children
Lack of Vitamin E it deficiency is minute because it’s present in our diet, it brings failure in rat’s pregnancy
Vitamin K Cause hemorrhage (loss of blood) it also causes morbidity and mortality in infant.
